ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Formed in Spain in 2000 when they were just a bunch of kids, Angelus Apatrida (pronounced “/’an-je-lus – a-‘pa-tri-da/”), have more than earned their reputation as modern Thrash Metal greats. They are considered the biggest Spanish Metal band nowadays, and one of the few ones to enjoy sustained international recognition from their homeland, holding the status of one of the most important and influential Thrash Metal bands in Europe.

With the always consistent line-up of Guillermo Izquierdo, José J. Izquierdo, Víctor Valera and David G. Álvarez, Angelus Apatrida have steadily evolved, releasing a series of stunning, genre-redefining records that belonged squarely in the Thrash Metal realm while never sounding quite like any other band.

‘Aftermath’ (Century Media Records, 2023) is undoubtedly the most heartfelt and powerful record in Angelus Apatrida’s illustrious history, but it’s also one of the heaviest and most direct. From the neck-wrecking adrenalin rush of opener “Scavenger” to the dark might of the closing “Vultures and Butterflies”, the Spanish quartet’s eighth studio record displays the songwriting muscle and playing prowess of bands like Metallica, Testament and Pantera, while still delivering a huge, jolting dose of Angelus Apatrida’s distinctive trademark attack.

Not many bands last for more than two decades with their credibility and passion intact. But Angelus Apatrida are not like other bands: this is state-of-the-art, multi-dimensional and monstrous Thrash Metal, with a big heart and a skull full of rage. Forged in turmoil but full of the hope that only music can inspire, ‘Aftermath’ is the pulverising metal record that the world needs right now. The future may be uncertain, but class is eternal.
